The UCD Student Centre by Fitzgerald Kavanagh and Partners has won the Public Choice Award in the 2013 RIAI Irish Architecture Awards. Now in its sixth year, the popular Public Choice Award gives the public the opportunity to have their say by voting for their favourite shortlisted project, which has the honour of being named Ireland’s favourite new building. After two weeks of busy online voting, the Winner was announced on RTE Radio One’s Morning Ireland programme on 4 July. There will be additional coverage on the 2013 RIAI Irish Architecture Awards on RTE Six One News, 4 July.
This year’s awards received 100 entries across 13 categories and the winners will be presented by RIAI President Michelle Fagan on 4 July at a ceremony at Wood Quay Venue, Dublin with Minister Ruairi Quinn as guest of honour.
Second Place in the Public Choice Awards was won by the Contemplation Space, Mater Hospital by architect Michael Goan. The project was developed collaboratively by Michael Goan (MCO Projects), Garvan de Bruir and Sisk.
Third Place in the Public Choice Awards went to the Temple Bar Umbrellas by Seán Harrington Architects.
