De Urbanisten are an innovative office for urban research, design and landscape based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. De Urbanisten was founded in 2008 by Florian Boer and Dirk van Peijpe. The office consists of an international team of urban designers and landscape architects.The studio has broad experience in the field of research, urban design, public space design and landscape architecture. It is a practice which involves an engaged polytechnical urbanism to improve the quality of life in our cities.
About Florian Boer
Florian is a spatial designer with a special interest in how ‘urban systems’ respond to water and climate adaptation. The city of Rotterdam plays an important role as a test location for innovative concepts and ideas. Florian has been intensively involved in the research by design of Rotterdam Water city 2035 (2005 ) and the (inter)nationally renowned Waterplan (2007). He is the inventor of the ‘water square’ and has been responsible as project architect for the design and construction of the first water square: ‘Benthemplein’.
Florian is currently working on water-sensitive designs and blue-green infrastructures in mayor dutch cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Dordrecht, and Nijmegen, as well as the Latin American metropolises of Mexico City (MX) and Guayaquil (EQ) in collaboration with Deltares.
Florian will be speaking on the topic: ‘The City as a Sponge’.
