Valentin Bearth Prof. Dipl. Arch. ETH / BSA / SIA was born in Tiefencastel in 1957. He studied at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, achieving his diploma under Prof. Dolf Schnebeli in 1983. He founded the office of Bearth & Deplazes with Andrea Deplazes in 1988. He has been Professor of Design at Mendrisio Academy of Architecture since 2000, Director from 2007-2011, and been Visiting Professor at the Università di Sassari in 2003.
Significant recent projects of Bearth & Depalzes include the Apartement House Arcadas in Landquart (2014), the Pool, Spa & Sports Centre Ovaverna in St.Moritz (2014), the New Federal Criminal Court in Bellinzona (2013), the House on Six Pillars in Schann (2012), the ÖKK Headquarters in Landquart (2014), and the New Monte Rosa Hut in Zermatt (2009).
Publications include Constructs Bearth & Deplazes (2005), Spacepieces (2014), titles on the Federal Criminal Court and New Monte Rosa Hut projects, and Atelier Bearth Microcosmi (2012) which documents the didactic activity of Valentin Bearth’s Design Studio at the Mendrisio Academy of Architecture between 2004 and 2012.
