Recently stocked by the RIAI Bookshop is a small orange publication “BOYD CODY” An Architectural Guide to their Buildings in Ireland. It is published by the Bauhaus-Universitat Weimar. Originally produced in 2008, it has been just updated to include more recent work by the practice.
The publication is collated by students of the School of Architecture at the Bauhaus-Universitat, Weimar under the direction of Prof. Karl-Heinz Schmitz and is one of series which includes other architects such as Livio Vacchini, Lugi Snozzi and Alberto Campo Baeza, amongst others.
Peter Cody has taught alongside Prof. Karl-Heinz Schmitz over the past four years on an international programme that includes a number of European Schools of Architecture. Contacts first developed through the Erasmus Programme have led to the School of Architecture, UCD hosting this year’s project, ‘City as Archive – A House for Eileen Gray’ in the autumn. The project will commence with a public symposium organized in conjunction with IMMA and the National Museum of Ireland to be held in October. Following this students from around Europe will be asked to design a new building to house the Eileen Gray archive and exhibition at Collins Barracks.
This book is a good overview and representative of the work of this award winning practice and is a bargain at €7.50.
