Lead Architect from BIG and Architect Sayan Skandarajah from dRMM will be participating in the Cork Centre for Architectural Education (CCAE) Architecture Society Guest Lecture Series 2016/2017. Sayan Skandarajah is an architectural designer and researcher based in London. He currently teaches at both the University of Reading and at the Bartlett school of Architecture, where he is also doing his PhD in Architecture by design.
Sayan is interested in the role of architectural representation in the forming and honing of political ideals and the potential of drawing to subvert these processes. His research focusses on the use of parallel projection in 17th century paintings of Kyoto, depicting the city from the all-seeing eye of the Emperor. By analysing the subjective and spatial qualities of the axonometric in such urban representation and adopting these techniques in producing new speculative drawings, his work seeks to reveal hidden power dynamics in the image of the city.
