house+design Summer 2017 issue on sale now

Dublin, May 29 2017 – The Royal Institute for Architects in Ireland (RIAI) today launched the second issue of the Institute’s consumer magazine house + design. Available in newsagents nationwide from Monday, May 29th, house + design is Ireland’s only dedicated magazine for architect-designed homes and interiors.

Included within the 2017 issue are features on 15 great homes and gardens, all designed by RIAI Registered Architects with many having already received accolades at the RIAI’s annual architecture awards.

Some of the themes covered within the magazine include:

  • The fantastic opportunities for new developments in our older suburbs
  • The modern incarnation of ‘living above the shop’ showing stylish options for those who work from home
  • With apartments a popular choice for both first time buyers and those trading down, an imaginative remodelling offers flexible space
  • Renovating and adapting older houses for modern living is a complex challenge and the magazine showcases some stunning exemplars, including a beautifully restored Georgian townhouse by GKMP Architects.
  • The challenges and opportunities of owning a Protected Structure are addressed by conservation architect, Robin Mandal

In addition, for anyone looking to embark on a new build, renovation or extension project, the magazine contains invaluable advice that will take homeowners through the process in a series of steps, including tips from RTÉ’s Declan O’Donnell, MRIAI.

Finally, if you are looking for inspiration further afield, there is a focus on Hamburg’s fantastic historic and modern architecture, by architect Tom O’Donnell, who lives in the city with his young family

RIAI President, Carole Pollard said: “Irish architects are delivering quality projects here in Ireland and across the world. house + design is a real celebration of the architectural talent we have in this country, designing homes of every size and budget and demonstrates how architects add expertise, imagination and value to constructions, renovations and extensions.”

house + design Editor, Dr. Sandra O’Connell added: “With Ireland continuing to experience strong housing demand – particularly for family houses and starter homes – our magazine is full of creative ideas and forward thinking. Architects bring a design focus to projects, finding imaginative solutions to realise the hidden potential of a home. They also bring their expertise to delivering projects with the complex building process. Our house + design magazine is full of inspiration and ideas that demonstrate the value that good architecture can bring to residential builds.”
