Interview – Grant Engineering

As we look forward to the upcoming Architecture and Building Expo, 6-7 October, Architecture Ireland takes a look at the Expo’s annual Architects’ Choice Awards through a series of interviews with past winning suppliers.

In this article, we speak with Barry Gorman of Grant Engineering. In 2016, Grant Engineering was awarded the ‘Best Renewable Product’ Award for the Grant VortexAir hybrid.

Grant Engineering previously won the Architect’s Choice Award in the Best Renewable Product category at Architecture Expo 2016. Could you please tell us more about the winning product in question and what impact its success in the Awards has had?

We were absolutely delighted to have been awarded the Architects Choice Award for the Best Renewable Product in 2016 for our Grant VortexAir hybrid. This is a unique product which offers the best of both worlds by combining the trusted attributes of the award-winning Grant Vortex condensing oil-fired boiler with the green advantage of the Aerona³ inverter-driven air source heat pump.

The Grant VortexAir hybrid has been an overwhelming success since it launched last autumn. It is a versatile heating solution and can help architects and specifiers to meet Part L obligations on new build projects without having to exclude oil.

Winning this award has helped to reinforce our position at the forefront of the heating industry. It has also given us a great talking point with local architects and specifiers.

Grant Engineering will be exhibiting at the Architecture and Building Expo again this year. Are there any particular products or services you’ll be presenting at the show that you could tell us more about here?

We will be showcasing a range of innovative heating technologies at this year’s event including the award-winning Grant VortexAir hybrid. In addition we will be showcasing the range of Aerona³ inverter-driven air source heat pumps (ASHP), which are featured in the hybrid model but are also available as stand-alone units.

The Aerona³ ASHP range provides a cost effective renewable alternative to traditional off-gas heating methods. Providing both heating and hot water for the property, this innovative range features units with greater operating efficiencies at lower external temperatures, larger outputs to match the type of properties encountered and reduced noise levels when working. These ground-breaking inverter-driven heat pumps have a superior SCOP even when external temperatures drop as low as -20°C. Three single phase models are available in 6kW, 10kW and 16kW outputs.

As a key provider of smart heating solutions and products, what are the main changes you’ve experienced in this sector over the last number of years and are there any future trends you see emerging?

Demand for energy-efficient boilers in Ireland has grown over recent years and Grant has been able to deliver high quality, reliable, sustainable, efficient and cost-effective boilers that address the specific needs of our customers. There is also more responsibility now on suppliers to ensure they are providing the relevant certificates for their products to help with the decision-making process about which product will best suit requirements.

As one of Ireland’s most progressive manufacturers in heating technology, Grant has always been at the forefront of modern technology in our innovative product design. We have always stayed ahead by planning for change and will continue to develop products with a unique selling point which can help provide a greener future for generations to come.

When considering contemporary heating systems (both residential and commercial), what would be your advice to architects when specifying in this area?

Heating systems can be a very daunting thing for architects, specifiers and home builders and this was one of the motivators for us to offer a free-of-charge heat loss calculation service which helps us to advise on the best heating solutions for a project. Architects are welcome to email their plans and xml files to heatpump@grantengineering.ie and we will return the heat loss calculation, DEAP compliance and other relevant information.

Finally, if our readers wish to chat with Grant Engineering during or after the Architecture and Building Expo, who, how and where can they find you?

The Grant Technical team will be at stand D7 at the Architecture & Building Expo 2017. You can also contact the Grant Technical Team on 057 9126968 (ROI) / 0800 0443261 (NI) or email heatpump@grantengineering.ie. For further product information visit www.grant.eu.

Grant has achieved an enviable reputation within the heating industry for its high-efficiency approach to new concepts. As the leading boiler manufacturer in Ireland, recognised with awards for it’s innovative products and contribution to the industry, we are aware that although most homes will continue to be heated by gas, oil or electricity, there is a growing awareness that we all need to do more to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. We focus on achieving environmentally friendly solutions that benefit not only this generation but future ones.
