The urban regeneration initiative, Phizzfest Reimagining Phibsborough is hosting a public exhibition of the community’s ideas on how to enhance and improve life for the residents of Phibsborough, one of Dublin’s original villages. The exhibition runs at darc space, 26 North Great George’s Street, Dublin 1 until this Saturday, 9 July. This is Phase 111 of the Design Review of Phibsborough Shopping Centre and Public Realm – a three phase process exploring how Phibsborough can become a modern, economically and socially vibrant urban community.
The public can view the Design Review of Phibsborough Shopping Centre and Public Realm – Phase lll at darc space from 10am-5.30pm (Monday-Friday) and from 12noon-3pm (Saturday) until 9 July 2016.
The exhibition highlights proposals to radically improve the quality of life for people living and working in the area through a holistic, interdisciplinary approach. Proposals include: eliminating hazards for pedestrians, putting in place proper infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians; creating public spaces where social and business life can co-exist; developing the potential of the shopping centre site and Dalymount Park as a municipal space; addressing unsightly landmarks such as Phibsborough Tower.
Other proposals take into account the need to provide for growing residential and student populations; better use of green spaces, lanes and vacant spaces; amenities for children and older people.
The Design Review was initiated by Phizzfest Reimagining Phibsborough in association with the Royal Institute of the Architects in Ireland (RIAI). It coincides with the sale of the Phibsborough Shopping Centre, the collapse of the Phibsborough Local Area Plan and the purchase of Dalymount Park by Dublin City Council.
The process focuses predominantly on Phibsborough Shopping Centre and its public realm and Dalymount Park and its public realm, encompassing Doyles Corner, Connaught Street Junction and extending up to the dangerous footpath on Cross Guns Bridge.
