Film Launch & Seminar Discussion

Venue: Crawford Art Gallery Lecture Theatre

This event marks the launch of Aoife Desmond‘s new 16mm film RetroReflection. Filmed on location at the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) UCC Cork, RetroRelection is a meditative visual essay which examines the intersections between science, nature, art and architecture. Aoife was awarded the Arts Council of Ireland Project Award in 2014 for this film, a project focusing on the unique architecture of the Environmental Research Institute, UCC, and its position as a locus of research between built and natural environments.

The seminar discussion will be chaired by Mary McCarthy (director of National Sculpture Factory/chair of Culture Ireland). The panel includes Aoife Desmond (artist), Maureen O’Connor (UCC English professor), Paul Bolger (ERI building manager/environmental scientist) & Merritt Bucholz (of Bucholz McEvoy architects of the ERI building) A short accompanying text by Maureen O’Connor will be available in a printed handout.
