To mark International Women in Architecture Day, the RIAI organised a special free networking event on Wednesday 12 July. The booked-out event took place at the RIAI Offices on 8 Merrion Square.
Renowned architect Gráinne Shaffrey, and architectural historian and RIAI Honorary Member Dr Ellen Rowley delivered compelling lectures on their work on the forthcoming Tenement Museum Dublin / An Músaem Tionántán.
The Tenement Museum Dublin is housed in a former tenement at no.14 Henrietta Street, Dublin 1 and will bring to life the story of the building and of its residents. Gráinne Shaffrey and Ellen Rowley have been centrally involved in this landmark project – Gráinne as architect and Ellen as curator. The museum will open to the public on 24th August with a 6-week performance by ANU Productions.
To set the scene for the lectures on the Tenement Museum Dublin, actors Emily Fox and Daniel Monaghan staged a scene in the RIAI from Seán O’Casey’s celebrated play The Plough and the Stars. The event was kindly supported by Arup.
