Sparking Modernity – The Marconi Station at Derrigimlagh, Co Galway
Date: 6.30pm, Wednesday 24 May 2017 Venue: darc space, 26 North Great George’s Street, Dublin 1
darc space invites you to help celebrate wonder, innovation and daring at the opening of the exhibition and the launch of the accompanying publication. The story of Derrygimlagh is one of the most compelling, yet little known, international stories of the 20th century. A blanket bog near Clifden, at the very edge of the European continent, was the setting of two outstanding technological achievements of early modernity. The exhibition will not only showcase the magic of the Derrigimlagh and its unique role in communications technology and aviation, it will also highlight the work of the design team in the creative interpretation of a unique historic site. A second exhibition strand further develops the role of this special place as inspiration; Belgian architect and academic, Dr Riet Eeckhout, will be exhibiting drawings that articulate intense site readings.
darc space is a gallery dedicated to architecture, landscape and urban design. For more information email firstname.lastname@example.org
