Wednesday, 17th April saw the “Office Wars” event hosted by office fit-out specialists Walls To Workstations, at the RIAI offices on Merrion Square. The Council Rooms were packed with many of the key figures in Irish Architecture, and the turnout and level of enthusiasm for this event perhaps suggests we are on the cusp of a significant change when it comes to our approach to creating tomorrow’s workplace.
Gerard Taylor, Creative Director with innovative office furniture manufacturer Orangebox, gave a fascinating presentation on the future of working practices and how this will impact on office design. Taylor stated that a ‘perfect storm’ has been gathering as new ‘game-changing’ technologies pervade the workplace which will ultimately lead to profound change in offices.
Commercial office fit-out is currently one of the most active parts of the Irish construction industry and is therefore a crucial element in the portfolio of any architectural or design practice. Walls To Workstations, as specialist contractors in this area, aim to assist those working in fit-out with advice and solutions based on our extensive experience in this area. Taylor made the point that many large corporations have claimed they “missed the online revolution” simply because they weren’t listening – Walls To Workstations make sure their clients never miss the next big thing in office design.
The good news for anyone who didn’t manage to make it to the RIAI on the night, is that this presentation of Taylor’s “Boomers & Millennials” report was recorded and will be available to view soon on w2w.ie.
