This new extension to an existing four classroom national school consists of a new classroom, resource room and general office. The new classroom is larger than standard and is designed so that it can double as an assembly room when required. The design placed the new extension to the front of the school, creating a formal main entrance, which the school had previously lacked. The scale and design of the new entrance portal announces the building as an important community building. It is a robust architecture set in an agricultural landscape.
Orla Murphy reviewed this project for the RIAI Annual Review, Irish Architecture, Vol 4:
“The skill of making an addition to a building which – despite being unambiguously contemporary in its detailing – seems to have always been there, produces what is a finely honed contextual response to both landscape and typological language..”
