To celebrate award-winning Irish architecture, the RIAI runs a nationwide programme of Walks + Talks this spring. Registered architects provide free public tours of their buildings in locations throughout the country.
Denis Byrne Architects (DBA) will give a tour of the Bord Gáis Networks Services Centre on Saturday, 8 March 2014 at 10am.
Tour of the Bord Gáis Networks Services Centre is fully Booked – Out.
The new Bord Gáis Networks Services Centre is strategically placed in direct proximity to the M50 motorway in Finglas, Dublin. The 5,200m2 building consolidates the Dublin operations of Bord Gáis Networks in one single location and incorporating a number of Bord Gáis Networks primary operational functions. A layer of perforated silver anodised aluminium panels wraps the building as a light, permeable yet robust and protective skin that expresses and reacts sensitively to the operational programme, the external microclimate and the building’s solar orientation. The award-winning building evolved from the winning entry of a two stage RIAI/BordGais International Architectural Competition held in 2008.
Awards: Winner ‘Best Sustainable’ and ‘Best Commercial’ Building’ in the 2013 RIAI Irish Architecture Awards
Reviewing the project for the RIAI Annual Review, Irish Architecture, Vol 4, Louise Cotter writes:
“The building is an intelligent response to Bord Gáis Networks’ requirements for a working facility that has a real sense of community and place, while deftly addressing the particular characteristics of the site. It establishes a valuable precedent against which future developments of this type might be measured and the generous volumes and loose fit will ensure that it will be adaptable and versatile for some time.”
