Wood Awards Ireland Closing Date Extended

Wood Awards Ireland (WAI) has extended the deadline for the 2016 awards to Friday 26 August. The WAI awards is organised by the Wood Marketing Federation and supported by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland. This is a major awards for Irish architects, engineers, designers and wood workers based in Ireland and overseas. The judging panel will award an overall prize at the awards ceremony taking place on 11 November and may present awards for category winners and a special award for an international project. 

It is supported by the Forest Sector Development Division, Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine with generous funding from the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC), Coillte  and Enterprise Ireland. The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) and the Society of Irish Foresters provide administration and promotional support.

Sustainable timber sourcing and usage is a key element of the project with emphasis on energy efficiency. Timber used must be sourced in sustainably managed forests and conform to the EU Timber Regulation (No 995/2010).

AWARD CATEGORIES

Entries are accepted in eight  categories listed on the WMF website (www.wood.ie). Check WAI information and brochure for more details on categories:

  1. Large-scale buildings
  2. Small-scale residential buildings
  3. Restoration and conservation
  4. Structural projects
  5. Furniture –bespoke and production
  6. Innovation and other (a) Wood Local, b) Wood Innovation and c)Woodwork
  7. Emerging practices/makers
  8. Best International project (select category)

Entries
WAI submissions Contestants should complete the Entry Form to be accompanied by €90 fee per entry, two photographs, of the entry, (no less than 2,000KB (2 MB) per image accepted in PDF or JPEG).

These may be produced in the catalogue of finalists. Entries, fees and photographs should be submitted by 26 August  2016 by post or digitally.

Special Award by Michael Warren

The Wood Marketing Federation is pleased to announce that Michael Warren has accepted the WMF and RIAI commission to create sculptures for WAI 2016. Ireland’s foremost sculptor has completed major installations in Ireland and overseas, mainly in wood, including France, Spain, Portugal, Japan, South Korea and Ecuador. He has received numerous Irish and international awards including Honorary Membership of the RIAI in 2012.
